Our volunteer network is made up of women around Ireland who have suffered hyperemesis gravidarum, or severe pregnancy sickness themselves. It is based on the established model of support developed by our sister charity in the UK, Pregnancy Sickness Support (PSS). They are currently managing the network here in Ireland and have a paid coordinator working Monday to Friday.
Registered volunteers have been through an application, interview and reference process as well as online training. When a women who is suffering contacts the charity their needs are discussed with the PSS support coordinator and information about coping strategies and treatments are given for women who have not been able to look through our website. If the sufferer would like support from a Volunteer Peer Supporter then they are registered with the charity and matched with a volunteer who will support them.
Support is via text, email, phone or sometimes face to face throughout their pregnancy while symptoms persist. We aim for our volunteers to be geographically close but this isn't always possible.
If you would like support from us please fill in the form below and the support coordinator will be in touch with you as soon as possible (Monday to Friday, office hours).
** The Hyperemesis Ireland Support Network Helpline will be closed from 4:30pm on 24th May and re-open at 9am on 5th June.
This is due to staff training and annual leave.
