We are here to support everyone who suffers with HG.
As a member of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, we are aligned with their values of inclusivity and diversity, including self-definition of gender identity. We aim to use gender-inclusive language for the most part; we also use gender-specific language where it’s more accurate, for example, when speaking about HG research done on cis women only, or barriers to care specific to trans* and non-binary people.
Accessing the support group
Our Facebook support group is private and for those who have (had) HG only; it is not open to healthcare providers, partners, family members, etc. and due to our very limited resources we don’t currently run any other private groups.
Everyone who wants to join must answer an admission question, to avoid spam and also keep the group for HG patients only. If you answer the admission question correctly but your profile has a male name, your entry may be queried or rejected by the moderators because they may assume you are a partner or healthcare provider. If you feel comfortable doing so, please add an explanation to your answer so that you can be admitted more quickly (e.g.: I have HG. I’m genderqueer and use he/they pronouns). You can post anonymously once in the group, if you prefer - although of course you don’t have to do so. Many members do for many reasons e.g.: not wanting any friends/family in the group to know they are pregnant or when sharing about a particularly sensitive topi e.g.: termination of pregnancy.
You are always welcome to reach out to us directly via email on support [at] hyperemesis.ie:
- for help in accessing the group;
- for information or support more generally;
- or to give feedback.
